Workshops and Classes

Available classes

Breastfeeding 101
When I speak to parents after their baby arrives, what I hear most often is they wish they had taken a prenatal breastfeeding class.  Most of us take weeks of classes about labour and delivery, with maybe one classes dedicated to baby care (including baths, health and breastfeeding).  When the reality is, that ideally labour and delivery lasts only one or two days and breastfeeding lasts six months or longer.

Breastfeeding is the natural way to feed your baby but it's a skill that takes practice and patience to perfect.  You can help by being prepared as possible before your baby arrives.  In this class, we discuss:
  • How to know if your baby is getting enough milk
  • How to optimize latching
  • Positioning tips and tricks
  • How to know if your baby is hungry
  • Normal newborn behaviour
  • How to know if things are going well and what to do if it’s not

Breastfeeding Myths
There is so much information out there about breastfeeding, and so much of it is...well, just wrong.  This class covers some of the biggest myths out there and why they aren't true.  We'll also talk about what the truth is and how to get off to the right start with breastfeeding.  This is a two-hour class and discussion regarding the truth about breastfeeding.

Baby Wearing 101
Have a small group who want to know more about their options in the babywearing world? I offer an introductory class for groups. We cover stretchy wraps, ring slings, mei ties, soft structured carriers and woven wraps. It's the perfect way to learn the basics, answer a bunch of questions and have fun!

Learn to Wrap
It’s a really long, really overwhelming piece of fabric. Want to learn how to use it?
This class includes two sessions (three hours each) where we cover a minimum of nine different carries including options for front, hip and back carries.  You should be comfortable with basic wrapping techniques (a stretchy wrap is okay!). And don't worry if you don't have a wrap, I have some you can borrow until you're comfortable!

Dream On - The Art and Science of Infant Sleep
Learn what to expect with infant sleep, before your baby arrives and others tell you what they expect!  This is four-hour class goes over the science behind infant sleep.  We cover the basics of attachment parenting, why it works, and what to expect once your baby arrives.  Enter this whole parenting thing prepared so that you can work with your baby and not fight against them!  Available as a group or individual class.
